Hello world! This is my first post. I plan to use this blog as a art journal/thought journal/talk about myself and my family journal and what ever else will come from my brain. So let me start by saying that I am a quilter. I create traditional and Art Quilts. Mostly Art Quilts lately. I made my first quilt for my 1st child Liam. 7 years later I am more passionate and inspired than I could have ever imagined.
I have been wanting to blog for a long time and now...I'm not sure exactly what I want to tell everyone (assuming anyone is reading this). I guess I'll start by describing myself. So, here it goes:
1. My name is Nancy. I believe that I am a sewer/Quilter solely because of my name. I have asked every Nancy I meet if she sews, quilts or crafts... We all do.
2. I was named after my great-grandmother Amanda. For some reason people called her Nancy. (for people who know me, this explains how not-normal my family is)
3. 3 months ago I joined my local quilt guild. I don't quite fit in yet. I still feel new. Everyone is very nice. A lot of the women know my mother and I feel like they talk to me to find out how my mom is. They don't really know me yet.
4. I have sewing A.D.D. (attention deficit) It is REALLY hard to finish what I start. I do finish projects eventually. Currently, I have more unfinished than finished. I know this, and accept this about myself. I'm trying to have my husband understand this also. He sees me with something new and asks if I finished the last thing. He doesn't understand that I can't finish the last thing if a new thing is in my head.
5. I am a wife of 13 years. I am blessed to have a great husband. We are opposites in a way. I think of it as 'what I am not he is, and what he is not I am'. We both love the mountains and the ocean and family.
6. I am the mother of 2 smartest, cutest, best kids in the world:

Liam,8 & Riley: 4.

7. I work full time.
8. We have 2 dogs: Gus & Sarah

9. 2 fish
10....and 1 African Grey Parrot: also named Gus. Gus the dog was named after Gus the bird.

11. A lot of my 'sewing' is done away from home. Liam has baseball 2 times a week. Riley has gymnastics on Wednesdays. Liam also has karate Tue. and Thursdays. That means 5 hours of hand quilting (small projects) or embroidering, etc...I work full time and have a 1 hour lunch break. I put my projects in Ziploc baggies at home and take something with me where ever I go. Right now I'm working on flags of the world to use as a border for my world quilt.
Liam said I should be cheering on his team. I tried to explain that because I am a mother I was granted the gift of doing many things at once. I can cheer on the team, learn Spanish on my ipod keep one eye on Riley and attach France to Spain with monofilament threat all at the same time.
12. I am learning Spanish on my ipod. It is bizarre to me because the teacher is from Scotland and has a very thick Scottish accent. But he has a podcast teaching Spanish ( and one for Italian).
-I work with the public everyday, I am really amazed how many people here (in central California) don't speak English. I am constantly trying to find translators to help me. I took Spanish in high school and 1 year in college.. I guess it's true that if you don't use it, you loose it.
13. I am a huge Greys Anatomy fan. I record every episode. I got William, my husband, to watch with me.
14. I love Reality TV. I watch mostly all of them. Real World, Road Rules, Amazing Race, Survivor, etc...
15. I am an Art lover. I love museums, Art books, magazines. I want to create art at all times, with any medium(pottery, painting, fiber..)
16. I truly believe that I can do anything that comes into my head. I imagine art and if my brain works out a way to create it - i start. Once something pops into my head--it bothers me until I start work on it. That may be why I start many but finish few...? hmmm?
17. I have read every Harry Potter book. I can not wait for book 7
18. I love beautiful gardens. I long to have beautiful plants, flowers, vines everywhere... I'm not an attentive gardener and thus most plants struggle to survive under my care. I do grow some things well: Geraniums and Jade plants are hard to kill. So instead, I take photos of flowers that are beautiful to me
19. I procrastinate. This one really should be closer to the top.
20. I am very patient. I realized this when I became a mom.
21. I can rip a phone book in half with my bare hands.
22. I love being a mom. I know, that was # 6... It is so important to me to be a good mom that I'm making it 23 also. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a mom. I loved playing with dolls. I dreamed of having like ... 10 kids. I loved being in a big family.
OK.. I'm getting bored thinking about myself.
Back to my quilt.
Peace Out
