Family Vaccation

We've been on vaccation! William and I both have this week off from work. We're home now, but we've been to Sacramento (Monday and Tuesday) and San Francisco (Wednesday). The kids had a blast at the Exploratorium.

Tuesdays

Tuesdays I volunteer at an afterschool program(If I'm out of work by 3:30pm). The kids are age 3-teenage and I work with the 3-4 year old group. I started 3 years ago when Riley was 3. This year she moved up to the older kids group, but I am still helping w/ the 3-4 year olds. I love tuesdays. I get to play with 3 & 4 year olds. I have 2 nephews and a niece in my group. This week we beaded necklaces. Some kids were into the project and some did a few beads and wanted to be done.

I love how they interact with eachother. At age 4 you can be best friends with someone after just meeting them...but if they take the toy truck you had ... they get body slammed to the ground.

We have atleast 8-9 kids each week. This week there were 14! It a lot of work. There's 3-4 adult helpers and a teenage helper (we need all the helpers we can get)(every adult helper has been fingerprinted and background checked). Someone always needs to go to the bathroom. If I'm taking 1 kid to the bathroom I'll make an anouncement for anyone else to come along. Everytime I get back there will be someone (with in 5 minutes) that 'has to go'.

We have a playdough table. I will sit (on the tiny chairs) with the kids and make butterflys, ladybugs...It's fun for me too.

We always have a story and an art project. These kids love to glue and color, use stickers.

And then our group combines with the older kid groups and we all have dinner.

I enjoy tuesdays. My inner 3 year old has fun playing with playdough and paints...

Sickness

Sickness is in my house. Riley has been on the couch for 2 days now. Fevers. Throwing up. Sore throat. Crying. Half open eyes. Not feeling good.

The logical person in me knows there is a process going on here. She was exposed to a virus. It'll run it's course and she'll be ok.

The mother in me worries when there is the littlest thing hurting my child. I feel helpless and I look at my baby and stroke her hair and sigh and hope she'll be over this soon. But it's been since Thursday evening and she's still running a fever. I am giving her Childrens Motrin but with all the reports about kids and meds I'm trying to space the doses out.
